Welcome to the department of Clinical Pathology, College of Medicine, University of Lagos.
The broad philosophy of the department is to contribute to the production of Nigerian trained medical graduates who are of comparable nationally and internationally by providing a strong foundation in Clinical Pathology.
In order to achieve stated objectives, the department is invested in teaching, research and skill acquisition in various laboratory techniques.
The department of Clinical Pathology, along with sister departments in the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, have recently adopted the new Spices curriculum, which is a student centered, competency based on learning approach with community involvement to improve the quality of our medical graduates.
Background:
The Department of Clinical Pathology is in the Faculty of Clinical Sciences of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos. Our responsibilities are mainly teaching/training. Research and Laboratory management. We train medical doctors to acquire appropriate knowledge and develop basic skills in laboratory medicine.,/p.
Academic Activities:
The department is made up of doctors, scientists and educators dedicated to providing a transformative educational experience for medical students, residents, fellows, graduate students, post-graduate fellows and visitors. The students learn alongside a diverse faculty of experts who study and diagnose disease using advanced methodologies.
Undergraduate Programmes:
The department trains 300 level MBBS/BDS students in the rudiments of Clinical Pathology. The department of clinical pathology runs an M.Sc. program for medical professionals who want to acquire more knowledge and skills in diagnostics.
Research and scholarly Publications:
Members of academic staff have continued to be actively engaged in collaborative and independent research activities that have major impact on the practice of medicine as a whole and laboratory medicine in particular. Some of these have been published in peer-review journals. Members of the academic staff continue to be involved in conceptualizing and supervising dissertations undertaken by postgraduate students.
