 Personal Statement

I am a senior lecturer at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Nigeria, where I teach undergraduate students, and postgraduate residents and fellows in Medicine and Gastroenterology. I conduct clinical research, and my research interests include hepatocellular carcinoma, liver cirrhosis, viral hepatitis, gastrointestinal endoscopy, and gastrointestinal bleeding. I am also a gastroenterologist practising at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Lagos, Nigeria where I provide specialist outpatient, emergency and in-patient care to patients with gastrointestinal (GI) and liver diseases such as chronic viral hepatitis, liver fibrosis, liver cirrhosis, liver cancer, peptic ulcers and GI bleeding. I am proficient in specialty-based investigations that evaluate the presence of GI and liver disease such as liver biopsy, liver aspiration, transient elastography, and GI endoscopy. I am a member of the Lagos State Viral Hepatitis Control Technical Working Group, whose aim is to eliminate viral hepatitis in Lagos state. In addition, I participate in community outreach programmes that increase awareness of viral hepatitis and its complications.
