Personal Statement

I work as an early career faculty, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Ophthalmology, College of Medicine, University of Lagos and Honourary Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and Retina specialist at the Guinness Eye Center, Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Nigeria. I am the Head of the retina Unit, the residency programme coordinator, and the Clinical Lead for Diabetic Retinopathy Screening and Treatment Services. My research focuses on understanding ocular diseases’ clinical, epidemiologic, and genetic correlates, including Diabetic, Sickle Cell, and HIV-related Eye Diseases such as orbital, and ocular cancers. I am also interested in ophthalmic imaging, Age-related macular degeneration and retinopathy of prematurity.  I am an engaging and effective team leader with an excellent work ethic and abilities. My ultimate goal is to conduct valuable, innovative, and collaborative research to advance scientific understanding of how lifestyle, and environmental factors in addition to genetic predisposition affect the susceptibility and stimulation of biological response to orbital-ocular disease while providing leadership and mentorship to junior faculties.
