Personal Statement

I am a Professor of Anaesthesia at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos. I have dedicated my professional life to the field of anaesthesia, contributing significantly to undergraduate and postgraduate training, research and clinical practice.

I am passionate about providing safe and appropriate anaesthesia for children and neonates thus I underwent sub-specialty training in the field of paediatric anaesthesia in 2006. I am actively involved in the training of sub-specialists for the post-graduate colleges, World Federation of Societies of Anaesthetists (WFSA) and Paediatric Anaesthesia Training in Africa (PATA). I am also the founding President of Paediatric Anaesthesia Society of Nigeria (PASoN) which presently has over 100 members with a mission to fostering perioperative paediatric care in terms of standards, clinical skills and knowledge. My other research interests include resuscitation training, monitoring and patient safety, difficult airway management and patient blood management. With over 100 publications in numerous journals, I have contributed valuable insights into various fields in anaesthesia.

I am passionate about education and training to improve patient safety and outcomes and have coordinated resuscitation training for the hospital and currently co-ordinate Safer Anaesthesia from Education (SAFE) courses in paediatric anaesthesia and cleft anaesthesia for the country. I supervise resident doctors on research proposal writing and research conduct and have supervised 26 dissertations at the Fellowship level. I am also an examiner for the Faculties of Anaesthesia of both postgraduate colleges.
