Personal Statement

I  had my basic training in Physiotherapy and Post-graduate degrees in Anatomy from the University of Lagos. My career interest include  teaching and research in Clinical Anatomy  and Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy. My research focus is on tendinopathy and I am the Principal investigator of the University of Lagos, Tendon Research group and also the Sports Injury group of the University of Lagos Centre for Genomics of Non-communicable Diseases and Personalized Healthcare . The Tendon research group accessed the TetFund IBR grant in 2018 to investigate the Molecular, Biomechanical and Morphological Effects of Intrasound Therapy on Non-Mechanical Fluoroquinolone-Induced Achilles Tendinopathy and the study has been successfully completed and published. My present research focus is on mechanical and natural modalities that will either prevent degeneration or restore tendon morphology and function in tendinopathy. I am also presently conducting studies on genetic expressions and genotype-phenotype relationships in tendinopathy in order to develop personalized interventions. There are presently a number of postgraduate students  who are being mentored in this area. I have won a number of awards which include the ‘Best PhD thesis in Medicine and Pharmacy (2009/2010) by the Postgraduate School, University of Lagos Nigeria and Senior Research Fellowship award (2022) by Science by Women Africa (Por Mujeres) (Spain).
