Welcome To The Department Of Nursing

Welcome to the Department of Nursing Science, College of Medicine of the University of Lagos, Nigeria!
The Department was established in 2010 but took off functionally in 2011. The vision of the Department is the pursuit of excellence in knowledge through innovative learning and research as well as character and service to humanity. In addition, enable staff and students to interact and compete effectively with their counterpart both nationally and internationally in terms of intellectual and professional competence.
Our curriculum currently offers two types of admissions, one for the generic students and the second for direct entry students. This leads to the award of a Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.N.Sc) degree:

  • A 5-year B.N.Sc curriculum for those students with no prior Registered Nurse certificate and
  • A 4-year program for those Registered Nurses wishing to pursue a baccalaureate.

Challenging practicum experiences is planned to occur during the training in different areas such as hospital wards, communities, clinics, schools, and rehabilitation centres.
In the 4th and 5th year of the program, students with no RN and RM certificates will be prepared to take the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (N&MCN) Licensing Examinations to enable them practice as Registered Nurses and Midwives (RN/RM). At the 5th year also, students will take the Public Health Nursing (PHN) Examination.
Upon completion of these programs, graduates are expected to be professionally competent generalists in nursing who recognize the need for continued personal and professional development throughout life and possess the educational background for post-baccalaureate study in Nursing. The Nursing Science Program has undergone the initial phases of accreditation by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the N&MCN.
The Department’s Faculty will continue to foster an innovative learning environment through research, and teaching.
Best Regards!!
